The World Capoeira Federation (WCF) proudly highlights the official visit of its President, Mr. Rodrigo Furbino Gomes, to the Republic of Azerbaijan, marking an important step in strengthening the global development of capoeira and fostering international cooperation.
The visit commenced on April 16 with a high-level meeting with the Minister of Youth and Sport of Azerbaijan. During this meeting, both sides exchanged views on the current state of sports development in the country, with particular attention given to the growing role and future potential of capoeira in Azerbaijan. The discussion emphasized opportunities for deeper collaboration, institutional support, and the expansion of international initiatives.
Continuing the program, on April 17, Mr. Gomes visited the DOST Center for Inclusive Development and Creativity—an institution recognized for its commitment to social inclusion and empowerment. This visit underscored the unique social value of capoeira as not only a sport, but also a powerful tool for inclusion, education, and personal development across diverse communities.
One of the most anticipated highlights of the visit will take place on April 19, with a vibrant street roda organized in the historic heart of Baku, the Old City (Icherisheher). This cultural showcase is set to bring together athletes, practitioners, and the public in a dynamic celebration of capoeira’s rich heritage, rhythm, and energy—connecting tradition with modern urban life.
Throughout the visit, a series of daily seminars is being conducted, focusing on the professional development of capoeira coaches and referees in Azerbaijan. These sessions aim to elevate technical standards, enhance knowledge exchange, and align local practices with international criteria, contributing to the long-term growth and recognition of capoeira in the region.
This official visit reflects the World Capoeira Federation’s ongoing commitment to expanding its global presence and supporting the sustainable development of capoeira worldwide. Azerbaijan continues to emerge as a promising hub for the sport, and this milestone visit further strengthens the foundation for future achievements.
